About `Upena

`Upena is a rough translation of the Hawaiian word for "web."

Under Construction!

This World-Wide Web server is part of the NINSDE Pilot Project, a joint project between the Hawai`i State Department of Education and the University of Hawai`i. Initially employing a Gopher server (gopher to: kalama.doe.hawaii.edu, port 70) to distribute information, the NINSDE project now takes a bold leap into the world of Cyberspace with `Upena, the Hawai`i State Department of Education World-Wide Web server.

As the NINSDE Project continues, we'll be adding much, much more information to this Web server to provide a convenient information resource for the Project team members and to offer a chance for the members to exhibit their own work and discoveries to the world.

If you'd like to see the kind of usage this Web server gets, take a look at these `Upena Web Server Statistics

Any questions or comments about `Upena can be sent to:

The hardware is a Sun SPARCserver 10 running Solaris 2.3. The server software is httpd from CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva, Switzerland).
