Biographical Sketch of David Lassner

David Lassner is the Director of Information Technology for the University of Hawaii. In that capacity he is responsible for academic computing, administrative computing, voice, data and video telecommunications for the statewide system of higher educat ion comprised of 10 campuses and 5 education centers on 6 islands. He is currently the Principal Investigator for Hawaii's 2.1M 3-year NSF-sponsored Networking Infrastructure for Education (NIE) demonstration project. David has been at the University of Hawaii since 1977, holding a variety of technical and management positions involving instructional technology, computing, telecommunications and distance education.

David represents the University of Hawaii on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Public Broadcasting and serves as Vice-Chair of WICHE's Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications. Recently Mr. Lassner was involved with coordinating local a rrangements for the Internet Society's INET '95 meeting at the Sheraton Waikiki in June 1995. The conference hosted some of the most prominent names associated globally with the Internet. The conference had more than 1500 attendees from 110 countries. David holds an A.B. in Economics, summa cum laude, and an M.S. in Computer Science, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently a Ph.D candidate in Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, conducting research on global telecommunications standardization.
