Wednesday, July 19, 1995 at the HERN Summer Institute

John Morton, Provost, Kapiolani Community College (KCC) and Peter Kessinger, Provost, Honolulu Community College (HCC) will present the innerworkings of their community college joint courseware for Civil Engineering (CE) 270 -- Applied Mechanics I.

The work of both the KCC and HCC campuses was recognized during April 1995 when they were presented the prestigious AACC/IBM Community College Networked Distributed Education Award.

CE 270 is a distance education course being offered jointly by Kapiolani and Honolulu Community Colleges in Honolulu. The teacher is using innovations in computer networked communications such as World Wide Web, Electronic Mail, and synchronous Multi-Us er Object Oriented computer environments (MOO space) to deliver student homework and correct answers, and to encourage students to work computer software programs, such as beam and force programs, through Mosaic in a Windows based environment. A team of teachers has been meeting regularly for a year to discuss and design course concepts and problems in synchronous and asynchronous communication through basic and enrichment activities, all through the use of the Internet.
