Chris Dede
is a Full Professor at George Mason University in Fairfax,
Virginia, where he has a joint appontment in the Schools of
Information Technology & Engineering and of Education. His research
interests span technology forecasting and assessment, emerging
technologies, and strategic planning. He currently has major grants
from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of
Defense to develop educational environments based on virtual reality
and distributed simulation.Chris is also a core affiliate faculty member in GMUÕs Institute for Public Policy. He spent a year as a Policy Fellow in the Office of the Director, National Institute for Education. He currently is working with the U.S. Advisory Council on the National Information Infrastructure, helping them think about their education recommendations. In addition, he is aiding the National Institute of Standards and Training, U.S. Department of Commerce, on a possible Advanced Technology Program initiative in Learning Technologies. He recently finished a large policy study for the U.S. Department of Education on distance learning and is just starting a technology forecast on school-to-work transitions for the Office o f Technology Assessment, U.S. Congress.
Chris has been a Visiting Scientist at the Computer Science Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and at NASA's Johnson Space Center. His funded research includes work for the U.S. Air Force, NASA, Apple Computer, the National Science Foundation, th e U.S. Congress' Office of Technology Assessment, and the Hogg Foundation. Under the auspices of the U.S. Information Agency, he has traveled to nine countries discussing the evolution of information technology in education.
