Biographical Sketch of Philip J. Bossert

Dr. Philip J. Bossert is the Project Director for the NSF-funded Hawaii Education & Research Network (HERN) project and, as such, is responsible for all aspects of this multi-year, multi-million dollar national demonstration project of the National Information Infrastructure for Education (NIE). Dr. Bossert is also the President of Strategic Information Solutions, Inc., a company he founded in 1986 to provide strategic planning and network information systems planning and support services in Hawaii.

From 1991 to 1994 Dr. Bossert was the Assistant Superintendent for Information and Telecommunication Services for the State of Hawaii Department of Education. In this position he was responsible for the voice, data, video and information systems serving the Department's 180,000 students and 17,000 employee's at more than 300 sites on six islands. Prior to that, Dr. Bossert served in various positions, including Strategic Information System Manager for GTE Hawaiian Tel (1987- 1991), President of Hawaii Loa College (1978-1986), and Director of Long Range Planning for Chaminade University (1977-1978).
