GTE Hawaiian Telephone provides wired telephone service throughout the State of Hawaii. Its telecommunications backbone is made up of both microwave and fiber optics. The fiber optic network installed between Kauai, Oahu, Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii in 1994 was the first interisland fiber project in the State.
