David Lassner is the Director of Information Technology for the University of Hawaii. In that capacity he is responsible for designing, implementing and directing a new integrated organization to support academic computing, administrative computing, voice, data and video telecommunications for the statewide system of higher education comprised of 10 campuses and 5 education centers on 6 island. He is also currently the Principal Investigator for Hawaii's $2.1M 3-year NSF-sponsored Networking Infrastructure for Education (NIE) demonstration project. David has been at the University of Hawaii since 1977, holding a variety of technical and management positions involving instructional technology, computing, networking, telecommunications and distance education.
He represents the University on the Board of Directors of Hawaii Public Television, is the immediate past-Chair of the WICHE (Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education) Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications, serves on the Western Governor's Association Regional Advisory Committee for the Western Governors' University (&qout;Virtual University&qout;), and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pacific Telecommunications Council. David is actively involved in K12 networking issues with the Internet Society through which he coordinates the annual School Networking Workshop at the INET conference and serves as Head Judge for the $1M annual ThinkQuest contest. He holds an A.B. in Economics, summa cum laude, and an M.S. in Computer Science, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
