| Course Description: | This course is a survey of Pacific Island Societies, using social science perspective to analyze the effects of environmental constraints, cultural tradition, historical experience, political and economic development, and social change upon the peoples of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. It will give students an understanding of the major problems and alternative futures which Pacific Island communities now face. "H" is Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific focus. | |

Computer Requirement: Students must have a web browser that is frames-capable, java script-enabled and Java-enabled. Netscape Navigator 2.0 or higher or Microsoft Internet Explorer will work. Also required: a news reader, an e-mail, an Internet Service Provider, and an IBM PC compatible computer with a 486 processor or better using Windows 3.X or Windows 95 OR a MacIntosh computer using System 7 or later with MacPP and MacTCP and 14.4 kbps or faster modem.
