Requirements:
TEN (10) week course - May 24-July 30, 2003 As a WI and E-focus course, there will be two four-page papers and twelve (12) short (1 page) online essay assignments, and several interaction ethical deliberation exercises. Only the top ten (10) essay assignments will be counted. So, the minimum total amount of writing is 21 pages for the whole semester. There will be no exams in this course.

Description:
An introductory course addressing the relationship between science, technology, and human values with a focus on contemporary ethical problems posed by developments in modern science. Note: This course is being offered as an Ethics-focused course and a Writing-Intensive course.
Textbooks: Science and the Human Prospect, by Ronald C. Pine
Note: This book will be available free online.

Technical Requirements: Online course allow students to take a course via computer technology and the Internet. It is recommended that if you register for an online course, you must feel comfortable using a computer and basic Internet skills ((browsing, sending e-mail, saving/sending files) .

Computer Requirement:
A computer with at least 32 MB recommended. PC with Windows 95 (later version), 98, or NT, or a Power Macintosh running System 8.4 or higher. If your machine is not already connected to a network and has an IP address, you need a modem to dial into your campus modem pool or an Internet Service Provider to obtain an IP address and to be connected to the Internet. You should have at least a 28.8 – kbps modem. You will need a browser to allow you to view the WWW (e.g. Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher, or Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher)
