Technical Requirements: Cable allows student to take course from their home by tuning into their local educational cable access channel. Cable courses are either “live” or pre-recorded. To take a cable course, students must be cable subscribers to either Oceanic Cable or Craig TV. The University of Hawaii cable programming (or UHTV programming) is broadcast on the following cable access channels:

Oahu County: Olelo channel 55, Craig TV channel 21 (Hickam does NOT broadcast higher education programs)
Maui County: MCCTV channel 55
Hawaii County: Na Leo O Hawaii channel 55
Kauai County: Hoike channel 55

Students should check whether they could view the education cable access channel from their home before registering. If students reside in a region of their county that is unable to receive the educational cable access channel listed above, the student should not register for this course via cable.

It is recommended that students also have an email address and access to a computer with Internet connection to communicate with instructor and classmates. For more information in regards to obtaining a UH email account please go to the following website: http://www.hawaii.edu/its/email/

It is recommended that students videotape the broadcast of their class sessions in case they are unable to view it during the scheduled broadcast time. Students should be familiar with setting the timer on their VCR to record.

It is recommended that students review the Tips for Cable Students website: http://www.hawaii.edu/dlit/sched/cable_tips.htm
